 Joerg's Blog News Feed

If you are reading this, you must definitly be bored.
Either that, or you're looking for information about this site and/or its author.
For the first group of people I advise YouTube. For the second group, well, read on.

This is my personal blog page. I'll be referring about all things happening to me - that might be interesting for whoever reads it. I can not garantee it will be very high level for everyone though...

So - what is a blog anyway ? For this - check out Wikipedia - they have the best description for this. If you want to contact me - you'll have to reformat my E-Mail - so - good luck.

What I am ? I call myself a hacker.
Please note - most people think about the bad guys doing bad things to other computers. Well - I would say - that those guys are the Black Hat guys - also known as crackers. What I call myself - is a White Hat hacker. See it as a system administrator using professional tools to probe the robustness of his own systems and networks, and trying to get the maximum out of the used hardware - making its use as efficient as possible. This is legitimate - as I do not break into anything - while crackers attempt gaining unauthorized access to systems for eventual unethic actions.
The difference between hackers and crackers does not lie in the tools or techniques they use (the same hammer can be used to build a wall, or break it down), but in their intentions !
For me - building a stable and secure system is a very interesting challenge, and to know it is stable and secure - I need to test it with all tools available. And this is what I like doing most.

Please note that all I say on these pages is for personal use only and under no circumstance has to be taken/used/copied without my explicit written permission !

Star Citizen event at Cologn (After the Gamescon)   [ View Details | Print View ]
Citizen Card

going to the Gamescon with my wife (and still feeling my legs), we were rather disappointed seeing an average population aged from 14 to 15years hanging around, lots of noise. The different stands trying to be louder than the neighbouring one - there was so much noise that in the end you ran away - looking around at threats to eliminate (we see here that we are gamers used to crowds and the elimination of surfacing threats :) ).
Anyway - once we left the Gamescon, we started walking towards the Alte Wartesaal where the Star Citizen event was to take place. Needless to say - that people have waited quite long to get in (the queue was very long). Also - the average age jumped straigth up to evaluated 40 years.

It was actually quite easy to spot one of the Rogue-Squadron members - as we had the same Template to make our T-shirts - so we met Elfwyn straight away before even getting into the facility.

Next to meeting with former and current pilots/fighter aces and Wing Commander Veterans, Chris Roberts presented to us (the crowd) the new Hangar module (3 different versions) which looked awesome.
In the end - people who were lucky enough could take some picture with Chris, and I was lucky enough to get a slot for the foto-Shooting... See the result below.

Private Gaming env ...   [ View Details | Print View ]
Born To Frag

Many people asked us actually if we play together, and from where. It is quite hard to make the online gamers understand that we do play 1m of each other, in our dedicated gaming corner :) Check it out for yourself !

The machines are so far i5 2.6GHz QuadCore CPU's, 8GB of Ram. 2x1TB of HD Space (one disk for Windows 7 and 1 Disk for Linux), and recently we added a NVidia GTX 660Ti to them. The screens are the Viewsonic 3D Series - capable of handling 120Hz frequencies - and as we do have the NVidia 3D Gaming Kits, if we really feel like, we do play in 3D Mode ! For enhanced 3D Mode feeling, we of course both have 5.1 Capable headsets...
The connection to the network is done through a dedicated 5GHz Wireless connection for both systems (check the Router in the middle of both tables). And - sometimes I even activate another machine in the Office - to act as a dedicated Left4Dead 2 server !
Note that in case of a real Zombie invasion - we do have our melee weapons ready for use on the wall !

That - is what I call a Gamers Shangri-La !

PS: I have had many requests for clarification: Yes ! My concubine is a Gamer too - and to be very honest - one of the few real competition I do have on Left 4 Dead 2 !

They really don't get it ...   [ View Details | Print View ]
Born To Frag

EPIC Forum Administrators are just killing the UT Community. Slowly but steadily - just because some people say what they think - they are closing the threads (note that the responses here have been deleted - about 15 comments), or deleting these. BTW - find a screenshot of the deleted thread here.

I know - I may sound rude sometimes - but I usually say what I think. But I really start to think that they are not capable of understanding what the community tells them... Take care of us - or die !

BTW - is there anything stronger than a BullShit Award that I could give them ?

Double Kill ! EPIC Forum Admins strike again ...   [ View Details | Print View ]
Born To Frag

Today - a user asked for informations on the actual Linux client support.
Guess what - even if users have answered (me included - last time I had checked - there were 3 answers) - the thread has been closed - but also the comments from other users have been deleted ... Check the URL and then this screenshot. The funny thing is - the thread ID has been modified even though the content stayed the same ...
I also learned that actually - warning other users that the question is unwanted and that the forum admins may close/delete it - costs 1 Infraction point. Reason: General Poor Beheavior

As I usually say what I think - I got myself another infraction point at Epic Forums. Check for yourself .
So - I got an Infraction Point because of general poor behavior. Let me ask a question - what is the definition of Poor behavior ? Using it's power (Forum Admin) to force people to shut off ? This is actually what I call General poor behavior and would give the Forum Admins way more than Infraction Points. To hide behind the power of disabling/closing threads. This - not only to the Forum Admins - but if Epic told them to do so - also valid for them ...
I will just not start putting the Awards all over these pages, they just deserve one for every muzzling action they start !

Epic Games Forums deletes another Thread ...   [ View Details | Print View ]
Born To Frag

unfortunatly I have no backup of that one ... unfortunatly.
Check it out: Deleted Thread

This is starting to get pathetic ...
I did however get a Warning ... called Infraction

Guys @ Epic Forum - what you are doing is not right ... at least - from what I define right & wrong !

Tue 13th Mai 2008 - Epic deleted again a full fledged thread. There were 13 pages and more - many people discussing about the possibility to have console players playing UT3 and PC-Gamers to go on the same servers. Pro' s and Cons's were discussed ...
Seems that the general beheaviour of Epic on things they don't want people to write - is just deleted ... This deserves a Bullshit-Award !
PS: I have unfortunatly not taken a screenshot of this thread. If anyone finds it - please let me know. Thx.

And sometimes they close the threads @ Epic   [ View Details | Print View ]
Born To Frag

Someone at the Phoronix site has actually asked why Linux threads where removed... and guess what - this thread has been closed too - only. Not removed as my thread has been removed. Maybe this has to do with the fact - that I was a little bit more harsh on it - as I took screenshots on my requests - and really asked them to give a statement.

Well - my method seems to not be really accepted, and got deleted.
Phoronix has then opened such a thread - and asked Epic on a statement. Well - same as usual. Reference to the Epic FAQ is the only reaction - and of course thread closure.

Of course - phoronix has also a new News-Topic on it titled: Epic Games Does Suppress Linux Talk.

Well - that says it all ...

[UPDATE] some other person has asked. Result: Thread Closed - again ...
However - we have gotten some slightly more informations this time:
*****ing about the linux client not coming yet is off topic and will be deleted. Any other linux client discussions are fine.

[UPDATE 2] Some more sites have started mentioning what has happened. check it out

UT3 Forum Deletes all Linux Related Threads !   [ View Details | Print View ]
Born To Frag

 Well - that's it ...

I really thought I could actually get the Forum Moderators to forward this to Epic - but all they did was to erase the Thread. Check it out on the attached screenshots.

Note - this thread had to be closed after 22pm yesterday Evening local time.

It is really sad - to see Epic treat a large part of it's users that way. I am personally, really disappointed !

[Update]: I have also added a request for a Linux Client in the UT 1.3 Patch. Let's see how long until it is removed. Backup-Image can be found here. Wonder how long it will take until I am banned from their Forum !

UT3 Client for Linux ? When ? if ever ?   [ View Details | Print View ]
Born To Frag

As I am a real fan of UT3 (especially because of the physics used) - however an even bigger fan of the Linux Operating System - I wonder when Epic will at last release the Linux Client for UT3 ...
Many people start to wonder why there still is none (5 months after the rumors came out the first time). Some WebSites/Forums already make fun of the fact that even on the Epic Forums threads about Linux Clients are closed very fast and efficiently.

Just for the matter of testing - I have initiated such a Thread to see how long it will take the Mods to lock it. Note that on purpose I did this on Sun Apr 20 12:58 CEST 2008
